The Rural Environment and Agricultural Safety Division conducts interdisciplinary research to promote sustainable rural development and improve the quality of life of farmers and rural residents. The Division focuses on rural spatial planning, rural revitalization, and agricultural safety by developing scientific technologies and evidence-based policies. Through research, innovation, and collaboration, the Division contributes to creating resilient rural communities, conserving rural resources, and ensuring safe agricultural workplaces. The Rural Environment and Agricultural Safety Division contributes to the sustainability of future rural communities and the improvement of quality of life through field-oriented research and collaboration that link science and technology with policy.
(1) Rural Spatial Planning Laboratory
The Rural Spatial Planning Laboratory conducts research on technologies and strategies for sustainable rural development. The laboratory develops GIS- and big data-driven spatial analysis and planning technologies to support evidence-based policymaking. It also promotes the conservation and sustainable use of environmental resources, including agricultural heritage and rural amenities, and develops spatial regeneration models that leverage specialized rural districts and underutilized spaces. In addition, the laboratory advances AI Transition (AX) technologies in rural areas by integrating IoT and AI to enhance the resilience of rural communities.
(2) Rural Revitalization Laboratory
The Rural Revitalization Laboratory promotes vibrant and sustainable rural communities through research on community development, rural tourism, rural healing tourism, and rural welfare. The laboratory also supports policies for youth and women in agriculture while enhancing the value and utilization of rural resources to improve residents' well-being.
(3) Agricultural Health and Safety Laboratory
The Agricultural Health and Safety Laboratory conducts research to protect farmers’ injuries and health risks. The laboratory investigates agricultural injuries, develops personal protective equipment and preventive technologies, evaluates hazards in workplaces, and supports evidence-based safety policies. It also develops smart safety management and systems using advanced digital technologies.
